We are enjoined by our Lord Jesus to be hospitable to those in captivity because He actually came for all and desired we also extend the same love He bestowed us to others. He said, I was in prison and you came to visit me ... I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me. Matthew 25:36, 40
Our Lord Jesus intimated Himself strongly with the helpless, the outcast and the feebles. He desired we treat them passionately as we ought to treat Him. He wants us to consider their pain by putting ourselves in their shoes. He was so obsessed to the cause of those that are persecuted that He provided their needs. He sets the captives free, gives sight to the blind. He lifts the downtrodden and loves the righteous ones. Psalm 146:7-9
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that we should show forth the praises of Him who had called us out of darkness into His marvelous light; which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10
This is exactly what The Lord is expecting from us because we're not ordinary people and should not reason like them. We're special breed of people who obtained mercy from God when we don't deserve it; so we ought to show mercy to those we think don't really deserve it in our eyes likewise. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you're my disciples. John 13:35. In another scripture, He said He has called us in righteousness: He will hold our hand, He will keep us and will make us to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open the eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. Isaiah 42:6-7
This is why we beckon on all God fearing people to join forces with us to spread the light of Christ to those who are probably forgotten, outcast or in darkness. Whenever we do this for them, we're doing it to the Lord.
